Ukrzaliznytsia advocates the creation of logistics hubs for construction cargo. Such centers should be created in Kyiv, Odessa, Lviv and Kharkiv, where the volume of construction cargo is the largest, said Andriy Ryazantsev, Business Development Director of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC, following a meeting with Pavlo Kachur, Head of the Ukrcement Association, the press service of UZ reported.
“The way to increase and accelerate transportation should be to form routes between the stations of manufacturers and the four largest stations where consumers are located. This will allow manufacturers to take a new look at their logistics models. The latest schedule routes, which have already gained recognition in the transportation of grain cargo, can also be used here,” Andriy Ryazantsev commented on the situation.
Ukrzaliznytsia believes that about a quarter of construction cargo transportation has a chance to switch to route and schedule shipments. Under such conditions, the volume of transportation will increase by 10-12%, and the speed of car turnover will accelerate.
The meeting also discussed the issue of convergence of classes and unification of empty mileage in cement transportation. All issues raised at the meeting will be reported to market participants by the Association and will be discussed again with UZ in January 2020.
6.5-7 million tons of cement are transported by rail annually, which leaves about 2% of the total volume of cargo.
